Nothing will distract you and cause you to make careless mistakes more than being unprepared both with your playing and with your equipment.
This is true whether you’re playing worship guitar songs in front of people, playing for yourself or simply playing along to your Christian guitar lessons.
When you are unconfident in your preparation of the material you are going to be playing for worship you will make silly mistakes that will, in turn, be a distraction for the audience. The best way to avoid this is to practice and don’t procrastinate. If you know you will be leading worship on Sunday, don’t wait until Saturday night to put together your set list and start practicing songs.
Get in the habit of double-checking all of your equipment and everything you need to bring with you for the service the day before. It is no fun to be running around right before you are supposed to play looking for an extra guitar cable that you forgot, or a strap, or picks, or your Christian guitar chords charts. The list goes on but the point is simply make sure you are prepared!
Don’t forget to pack extra strings and extra 9 volt batteries in case your guitar pickup uses a battery or you have a tuner pedal that runs on batteries.
